Faculty Spotlight

Ashok Saluja, Professor and Vice Chair of Surgery, was unanimously voted President-Elect of the International Association of Pancreatology, or IAP, during the organization’s recent meeting in Lodz, Poland. From July 2010, Prof. Saluja will for a period of two years guide the IAP in promoting and encouraging the advancement and exchange of knowledge respecting the normal and diseased exocrine and endocrine pancreas by means of regular international meetings, journal circulation, and public awareness campaigns.

Professor Saluja is a past-President of the American Pancreatic Association and that organization’s current Secretary-Treasurer.


Upcoming Event: Save the Date!

The Department of Surgery and the University of Minnesota Medical School announce that former vice president Walter F. Mondale will deliver the first annual Rothenberger lecture, “Complexity and Meaning in Politics and Healthcare.” Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 2, 2008, at 4:00 PM in the Mayo Auditorium; a reception hosted by the Dean’s office will follow.


Faculty Introduction

The department of surgery is proud to welcome Todd Reil as an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery, and Director of Endovascular Surgery. Reil, a native Minnesotan and alum of the University of Minnesota Medical School, comes to us from the University of California-Los Angeles where he had completed his general surgery residency, a research fellowship, and clinical fellowships in both vascular surgery and endovascular surgery. Reil began work with the University June 1, 2008.
