Regional Research Consortium

Welcome to the Department of Surgery’s Regional Research Consortium (SRRC).

The development of the SRRC is a joint effort of the Departments of Surgery at the University of Minnesota (UMN), Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), the Minneapolis VA Medical Center (VAMC) and St. Paul Regions Hospital.

The mission of the consortium is to promote excellence in the care of surgical patients by integrating surgical practice with innovative clinical research and to provide a collaborative and robust environment for education and clinical research in surgery.

The consortium leaders are enthusiastic about this new initiative and committed to promoting the collaboration of surgical research among the leading Twin Cities Health Centers. They are:

Director:

David Rothenberger, MD, Deputy Chair, Department of Surgery,  UMN

Co-Directors:

Mark Odland, MD, Chief of Surgery, HCMC
Roderick Barke, MD, Chief of Surgery, VAMC
David Dries, MD, Chief of Surgery, Regions Hospital

Associate Program Director:

Sheilah Hurley, Department of Surgery, UMN

Individual investigators who are interested in developing a clinical research project should forward the study concept to Sheilah Hurley, Associate Program Director at hurle031@umn.edu.  The Concept will be reviewed by the SRCC Review Committee and the investigator will be notified whether to proceed with study development. The SRCC will work with the investigator in developing the protocol and identifying potential sources of funding and coordinate inter-institutional activities.

We want the SRRC to be a truly collaborative effort and hope that you will work with us to develop the consortium. Please feel free to forward your thoughts and suggestions as we move forward. Please direct your comments or questions to Sheilah Hurley, Associate Program Director at hurle031@umn.edu or 612-624-5950.
