Curriculum and Learning Objectives

The Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a 3-year curriculum with 12 quarterly modules of 1-1/2 days each. The current cohort is in session and will run through June 2017.

Each of the quarterly modules includes the following elements and learning objectives:

  1. Panel discussion 
    • Participants will be introduced to the learning objectives of the Emerging Physician Leaders program as experienced by members of the previous cohorts
  2. Small group discussion
    • Participants will meet in pre assigned small groups to discuss a student generated case and utilize a prescribed format to discuss and provide consultation to fellow members of the small group
  3. Context speakers
    • Participants will be exposed to an academic journey resulting in the chairmanship of a major Medical School Department
    • Participants will understand multiple leadership perspectives including lessons learned and mistakes made
  4. Big room case study
    • Participants will be introduced to the case study method as it relates to personal leadership education within the EPLP.
    • Participants will utilize a prescribed format to discuss and provide consultation to fellow members of the cohort
  5. Adaptive leadership coaching
  6. 360 Evaluations and assessments
    • Assessment coach to explain the connection between 360 evaluations and leadership characteristics
    • Participants will articulate individual findings of the 360 evaluations
    • Participants will articulate group findings as determined by the assessments

Modules focused specifically on healthcare policy, finance literacy, communication, difficult conversations, Just Culture, conflict management and negotiations, understanding complex organizations.
